Newspapers
The Roanoke Times, a daily newspaper serving the Roanoke metropolitan area and 17 surrounding counties, is distributed free of charge to patients' rooms upon request Monday through Friday. Weekend editions are available for purchase from our volunteers and are delivered to patients' rooms. Other local and regional newspapers are available for purchase near the Cafeteria entrance.
Patient Email
Here's how it works. Send an email on the form provided. Your email will be sent to a printer located near our Volunteers' Desk. At 1:00 p.m. (Eastern time), the emails are printed off and delivered to the patients' rooms. There is no weekend delivery at this time. Messages sent to us after 1 p.m. Eastern time will be delivered the next day.
Please keep in mind that this is the equivalent of sending a postcard - we cannot provide privacy or confidentiality.

Mail & Flowers
Volunteers bring mail, flowers and other deliveries to your room throughout the day. Deliveries after patient discharge will be forwarded to their home.
Television
Color television sets with cable accessibility are provided in each patient room. In addition, there are numerous educational programs that are broadcast on closed circuit (Channel 65). Please ask a nurse or another Patient Care representative for further information and assistance.
Telephones
Bedside telephones are provided so that patients may inform friends and family who wish to contact them. Local calls may be placed from hospital rooms by first dialing a "9", then the complete telephone number. To place a call within the hospital, dial the four-digit extension (the last four digits of the complete number). If you are unsure of the extension, please ask hospital personnel for assistance. No charge is made for local or in-house calls. Long distance calls may be placed through the hospital operator by dialing "0". These calls will be billed to the patient's home phone or credit card - whichever is preferred.
Meals
LewisGale Medical Center provides room service dining to all patients and guests. It's called "At Your Request" and allows patients to order the meals they want -- when they want. There are no extra charges for patients to use "At Your Request" Orders may be placed any time between 7:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Meals are delivered within 45 minutes of the request.

Pastoral Care & Other Counseling Services
Our Pastoral Care Department provides spiritual support and counseling on a 24-hour per day basis. Our Pastoral Care Coordinator, Reverend Will Iler, is board certified by the Association of Professional Chaplains. Contact Reverend Iler at william.iler@hcahealthcare.com. A request for clergy services can be made through a patient's doctor, nurses, and the hospital operator or by dialing the Chaplain directly at extension 4730. If a patient or family member wishes to have your clergy or church contacted, please ask a nurse to assist you.
All patients, family members and other guests are welcome to visit the Chapel on the sixth floor and to attend services that are held periodically. Chaplain services, including inspirational music and information on advance directives, are available daily on the hospital's closed-circuit television channel 65.
The Hospital also provides consultation and counseling to patients, family members and others who may be facing ethical or other difficult decisions relative to patient care. Please ask a nurse to assist you if you wish to have assistance and guidance - our facility has a Bioethics Committee that is readily available to help.
