Outpatient behavioral health services in southwest Virginia

The extensive behavioral health services offered at LewisGale Regional Health System expand into outpatient care. Outpatient care allows patients to receive the structured, specialized care they need, while also letting them continue many aspects of their daily life.

If you or a loved one is in crisis, or need more information, call our Access and Response Center at (877) 886-7026 or (540) 776-1100.

We offer several options for outpatient care, including:

  • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
  • Partial hospitalization program
  • Outpatient addiction treatment

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

The Intensive Outpatient Program—an after-hours program intended for patients who do not need detoxification—meets several evenings during the week. As is typical of 12-step programs, treatment involves skill development to maintain ongoing recovery, aimed at helping each individual function effectively at home, on the job and in life.

Typically, treatment averages 12 to 16 sessions.

In addition, graduates of our IOP are welcome to attend our evening recovery group, known as Recovery After Hours, which offers the benefit of more time enrolled in a program to receive active treatment while recovering from substance addiction.

Partial hospitalization

Partial hospitalization is a successful and effective alternative for adolescents and adults to address mental health and substance abuse issues.

Day-treatment program

For our partial hospitalization, day-treatment program, participants gather in a LewisGale Regional Health System hospital-based setting from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. each day for five days (Monday to Friday) each week. There, they interact with professional staff and other group members, learn new life skills and review and monitor medications.

Each evening and during weekends, program participants return home, which offers them opportunities to practice new skills and test their ability to function within their own environment.

Typically, treatment averages seven to 10 sessions.

Substance abuse treatment

Our intensive outpatient and recovery program delivers addiction treatment three days a week for patients in recovery. This is an evening program, which allows many participants, including impaired professionals mandated into care, to continue working at their jobs. We also offer inpatient mental health programs for 24/7 care.

Our program meets the requirements, needs and expectations for individuals who seek behavioral health services and treatment under a monitoring program through the Virginia Department of Health Professions.
